LCL Belgium approached us to develop an enterprise-grade power monitoring solution. Today's datacenter market relies on accurate power utilization measuring for capacity planning, operational stability and invoicing.
Cu.be Solutions developed and deployed an architecture that's built on the same foundations as the datacenters for which it was built : complete redundancy on every level.
MySQL Cluster, network failover and redundant processing
The architecture built consists of :
- A MySQL Cluster with 2 data nodes, 2 management nodes and 2 SQL nodes, equally spread over 2 datacenters
- The network layer has been built to support live failover through an additional layer 2 MPLS tunnel, ensuring the network will survive a hardware failure
- All power measurements are collected and processed in the 2 datacenters, ensuring data processing will continue, regardless of system failures
Graphing, reporting and alerting
The custom-built software allows LCL Belgium to monitor power utilization in real-time, both on pure power utilization (Ampere), as well as the energy usage (kWh). It provides real-time graphing, historical data and automatic monthly reporting, used to invoice customers.
Furthermore, it provides monitoring and alerting of excessive usage, allowing LCL Belgium to contact customers of power loads that approach critical values.
